The Sabbath morning began with many of our church brothers and sisters enthused to go out into the streets and communities to "Be The Sermon." It was official…It was Global Youth Day (GYD). GYD is an initiative launched by the General Conference in 2013 along with 13Division youth Directors.

The vision of GYD is to recapture the reality of Adventist youth as a global movement mobilized for service, contributing to the proclamation of the everlasting gospel and ushering in the second coming of Jesus Christ.

The members of Hagley Park Seventh-day Adventist church took a slightly different approach by using this opportunity to allow our youth and church at large to visit our shut-ins who are unable to attend church for some time because of various illnesses.

The Youth Sabbath School, lead by senior teacher and business man, Roy Saunders, took us to our brothers home off Waltham Park Road. Brother Simms is what we call him, a former deacon who became gravely ill last year. As the youth entered the small but comfortable home, we saw a bed ridden, but very aware man, who said happy Sabbath with a smile.

It was evident that our brother was in pain, but the songs we sang comforted him. The songs included: "I Will Sing of Jesus Love", and Sabbath favourites such as "Holy Sabbath Day of Rest."  We went through the Sabbath school quarterly with our dearly beloved Brother Simms, followed by prayer and then said our  goodbyes.

Our Final Moments with our Brother

Listen to a recorded session of our Sabbath School class and worship session with our dear Brother Simms on March 19, 2016. We too hope that you will be blessed while listening

It was evident why the slogan "Be The Sermon" resonated with us on this day.  As professed Christians, we are our brothers keeper and our lives should be an example for others to see. We ought to live the life Jesus lived visiting the sick, feeding the poor,  offering words of comfort and hope. For many of us, we are saddened that our dear beloved brother Simms passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2016. He was 91 one years old.

Global Youth Day should not just be an event etched in time, but it should be a part of our daily lives as we continue on this Christian path.
